[Chronicle from the past]
Armed with dozens of pails of water

In the 50s, the inhabitants of Bormio waited at night for the Liege Rome Liege competitors, armed with dozens of pails of water!
As soon as the cars arrived they threw the water on the wheels to cool the brakes, which were white hot from the terrible descent from the Stelvio pass. Thanks to their help, the competitors were able to set off again immediately for the Gavia pass.
The old people of the village remember these epic moments with emotion when the drivers were heroes and the cars were smoking meteors disappearing into the night with blazing lights, roaring engines and squealing tyres.
What a spectacle!
